Chaplain’s Role

• Provide spiritual care, guidance and Islamic education to college students through one-on-one appointments and a variety of compelling programs and classes. 

• Connect students to the larger Muslim community in the Greater Sacramento area to ensure they have access to necessary resources.

• Advise and mentor students on issues that directly relate to and impact their spiritual lives. 

• Assist Muslim students in matters related to improving their campus life.

Chaplain’s Role

• Visit patients in the hospital or at home to offer comforting words, presence, duaa’ and specific requests by your family.

• Offer spiritual support for your whole family, to help you all feel at peace during this challenging time. 

• Provide grief support for families and descendents. 

• Provide continuous support via phone/video chat for unusually long stays in a hospital setting.

Make duaa on behalf of the patient and asks Allah (swt) to heal the patient and grant them sabr. 

القرآن Qur’an

Recite the Quran to comfort the patient and provide advice on the nature of tests in this life. 

نصيحة Advice

Advise and provide guidance on any Islamic matters important to the patient or their families.

Chaplain’s Role

• Visit patients at the end of their life in the hospital or at home to offer comforting words, presence, and duaa.

• Guide family members and the care recipient at the end of their life to prepare sadaqah jariyah arrangements.

• Connect with families during the most difficult period of losing a loved one and explain the steps to ensure an Islamic burial and funeral.

• Accommodate for the cultural and religious needs of each family, whenever possible.

• Provide grief support for families and descendents.

Encourage the dying Muslim to affirm his/her faith prior to death by pronouncing Shahada or testimony of faith.

Recite the Quran to comfort the soul of the patient and bring peace into the hearts of those in the room.

Offer instruction on burial and funeral preparations.

• Help process grief and hardship by creating an environment that encourages you to communicate your feelings and struggles.

• Guide you to reconnect with the community for additional support.

• Connect you with a professional therapist, if and when needed.

Advise and counseling for those in grief.

Connect those in hardship with other people in the community to ensure spiritual and social wellbeing.

Chaplain’s Role

• Correspond through mail and talk directly with inmates requesting spiritual care and support.

• Refer to other organizations to help inmates access Islamic education and resources outside the prison.

• Visit prisons to teach classes, counsel inmates, provide spiritual care and foster relationships.

• Ensure inmates are taken care of during special Islamic events such as Ramadan and Eid.

• Provide support to families with incarcerated loved ones.
